Regional Vice-President, Saskatchewan
Sister Judy Henley has been a CUPE member since 1982. She is a Health Care worker; through the years working in health care she held different positions. Currently Judy holds a Payroll and Benefits Officer position in her workplace for Sunrise Health Region.
In Saskatchewan, health care had gone through restructuring in 1997 and 2003 where Judy had been involved in the merging of health care locals. The membership of the local she belonged to grew from 500 to 1,000 members in 1997 and to 2,050 members in 2003. Judy has served her local in various roles as an activist for the past 24 years.
Presently she is the Secretary-Treasurer of Local 4980 and became active in the provincial division 18 years ago. She is currently in her eighth year as Secretary-Treasurer of CUPE Saskatchewan.
Judy served on the National Advisory Committee on Pensions for 12 years, accepting appointments as the co-chair of that committee from 1999 until 2009. She also is a representative on the Saskatchewan Health Care Council of Unions Pension and Benefits committee for the past 11 years, and continues to work on sub committees to ensure that the 13,000 health care members benefits achieved through bargaining are administered properly.
Judy was elected to serve as a CUPE Vice-President to the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour Executive Council in 2008 and to represent Saskatchewan’s 29,000 CUPE members as a Regional Vice-President to the National Executive Board at the 2009 National Convention.
Passionate about workplace justice and pension planning, Sister Judy is driven by her belief that every worker deserves to have their rights in the workplace recognized and their dignity in retirement respected.
