We’re pleased to present you with the report from our Young Workers’ Strategy Meeting. The meeting took place in Montreal in August 2013. Over three days, young workers from across the country met to learn about CUPE, and recommend strategies to better engage our membership.
We had the opportunity to take part in the meeting and spent a lot of time listening to what our young members had to say. We had a wonderful group of bright, energetic young activists. It was quite the inspiring event.
A summary of the meeting and recommendations that came out of it are contained within this report.

All in for our future
The voices and priorities of young workers were a major focus for CUPE during our Year of the New and Young Worker in 2013. Across the country and throughout our union, young workers gave CUPE their advice and shared their experience of the social, economic and political realities they face. The conversations also helped young workers connect with and learn about their union.

Health and safety facts for new and young workers
Between 2007 and 2009, 124 workers between the ages of 15 and 24 years died from work-related injuries. Almost 34,000 young workers were hurt badly enough to miss work. The key to protecting new and young workers is to educate them on their rights, and the questions they can ask to stay safe. Download the fact sheet.
