Members of the Videotron’s Laurentian sector in Gatineau, QC attended a general meeting and voted 75% in favour of the tentative agreement the parties reached on October 2, ending the 11-month lockout.
“After almost one year of conflict, challenges and sacrifices, the bargaining committee presented the contract to the membership in an emotionally charged room. It was an evening that will remain etched in the memories of the 214 members of the SEVL-CUPE 2815, whose families experienced so much uncertainty. In spite of their ordeal, these courageous men and women stood tall and persevered each and every day in their quest for fair and dignified working conditions,” said Nick Mingione, president of SEVL-CUPE 2815.
The collective agreement will run from September 1, 2020 to August 31, 2027. Within 60 days following the date the agreement is signed, members will be receiving retroactive increases totalling more than 6% along with a 5% lump sum payment.
In spite of some provisions that allow Videotron to resort to more contracting out in the service provided to Gatineau customers, all employees in Gatineau will be covered by a job security clause that will apply for the duration of the collective agreement.
This agreement, which enhances life-work balance, also consolidates day schedules from Monday to Friday in customer service and establishes four-day-a-week schedules for 25% of employees.
“Under the terms of this agreement, all disciplinary action and all dismissals that occurred during the lockout will be cancelled. The workers will be able to resume the essential role they play in society and stand proud for having defended their rights and their future,” said Mingione.
