The UQAM strike will continue. The Syndicat des employées et employés de l’UQAM (SEUQAM) has announced that its members will be on strike for another two days, on Friday September 6 and Monday September 9.

“Moreover, all 1800 members have been invited to a general meeting to be held on September 9 at 1:30 pm to take stock of the situation and to hold another strike vote,” explained Louisa Cordeiro, president of SEUQAM.

In the hope to end the impasse, a meeting between management and the union has been scheduled for Friday morning.

Last July 3, the members voted in favour of pressure tactics up to and including five days of strike action.

“When the employer presented its last offer in July, the response from the general meeting was almost unanimous – a strike vote was taken and received 93 per cent support,” explained Louisa Cordeiro.

The 1800 support employees are demanding that the employer return to the bargaining table with a better offer on wages, the crux of the dispute. “We just want to be paid properly,” indicated Ms. Cordeiro.

UQAM support employees have been without a collective agreement since May 31, 2017. The strike vote was held last July 3.
