Rory Gill has been a dedicated leader and passionate advocate in Alberta’s labour movement for decades. Since 2019, he’s served as President of the CUPE Alberta Division, championing workers’ rights and fair treatment across the province. Beyond CUPE, Rory holds several influential roles that underscore his commitment to workers and the public good. He sits on the executive boards of the Alberta NDP, Public Interest Alberta, and the Local Authorities Pension Plan (LAPP), where he advocates for progressive policies, workers’ rights, and secure pensions for Alberta’s public sector employees.
Rory’s journey began in 1997 as a seasonal parks labourer with the City of Calgary, where he worked in various roles before being promoted to foreman in the Parks Department in 2000. His union activism took root in 2006 with CUPE 709, the Calgary Civic Foremen’s Union, where he first served as a shop steward. Since 2010, he’s remained actively involved in his local and joined the CUPE Alberta provincial executive in 2016, continuing his unwavering dedication to Alberta’s public sector workers.
Originally from Aberdeen, Scotland, Rory grew up primarily in Calgary and is the proud father of three children.
