CUPE salutes Sonia Lebel, president of the Conseil du trésor, who wants to table a bill that would avoid raiding or amalgamations of bargaining units in the health and social services network.

“As you are aware, even if we were willing to wage this historic campaign, CUPE has never been in favour of raiding, which would not only destabilize the health care network but would also fracture interunion solidarity that unites the various public sector associations,” said Patrick Gloutney, president of CUPE Quebec.

The bill will change the bargaining framework in the public sector (Bill 37), and one of the objectives would be to maintain the current bargaining units to avoid raiding in the health care sector as per Bill 15, while retaining Santé Québec as the sole employer.

“We are waiting for the bill to be tabled so that we can study it to gain a good understanding of its ins and outs. We want to ensure that our members’ interests are still protected,” added Fanny Demontigny, president of the du Conseil provincial des affaires sociales (CPAS).

“We welcome the news, but vigilance is the watchword. We’ll be closely monitoring the next few steps,” said Richard Delisle, president of the CUPE Quebec Education Sector.
