At a general meeting, members of CUPE 5564 voted in favour of a truce, which means that the unlimited general strike underway will be suspended starting tomorrow morning until October 31.

In return, Shawinigan bus drivers will receive an immediate wage increase along with retroactive pay dating back to November 1, 2024, which will be paid next Monday.

The truce will also allow for negotiations to continue without compromising other pressure and visibility tactics. Members will also continue wearing their campaign shirts and apply stickers to buses to remind the public of the issues in these negotiations.

All of the bargaining issues are still on the table, and discussions on wage conditions and other important issues will continue during this time in an attempt to arrive at an agreement satisfactory to all the parties involved. In addition, other meetings are already planned with the conciliator in this case.

CUPE 5564 reaffirms its commitment to defend the rights of its members and to obtain fair and safe working conditions in keeping with their essential role in the community.
