Sisters, brothers, and friends:

Monday is election day. This will be one of the most consequential elections of our lifetimes. Canadians will elect a new Parliament to steer us through the turbulence and threat of another Donald Trump presidency. In this moment, we must protect our country, and what makes us proudest to live in Canada: the things that lift us all up in times of need, like public health care.

There is consensus in opinion polls that Mark Carney is very likely to be our next Prime Minister. With the threat of a Pierre Poilievre government diminished, our focus must be on electing enough NDP MPs to protect progress made in the last Parliament, and to curb any rightward shift under Mark Carney.

Without strong checks and balances from the left, the Liberals will continue underfunding health care, privatizing our infrastructure, cutting taxes for billionaires and CEOs, and selling out workers’ rights during job action.

With just 25 MPs, the NDP secured the biggest expansion of our health care in a generation with dental care and pharmacare, along with affordable child care, federal anti-scab legislation, and billions for housing - and so much more. By sending a strong NDP caucus back to Ottawa, we can protect workers, defend jobs and natural resources, and ensure cherished public services are not used as bargaining chips in the trade war with Donald Trump.

Especially in ridings that already have a New Democrat MP, we are urging our 750,000 members nationwide to vote NDP when they cast their ballots on Monday.

To see where the parties score on the key issues for CUPE members, check out our CUPE Votes Election Report Card.

We are also encouraging members who want to get involved to use the resources we have prepared to join a labour canvass or help mobilize your fellow CUPE members using our social media tools.

Together, we will weather Donald Trump’s trade war. Together, we will work to build a stronger and more resilient Canada - without sacrificing the public services that make us proud to be Canadian.

In solidarity,
