The union representing amalgamated outside workers in Montreal (CUPE 301) deplores the lack of vision by the City of Montreal, which announced cuts earlier today.
“We can do so much better with what we already have instead of cutting and turning to the private sector, because that’s what is going to happen. And it always costs taxpayers more,” said Jean-Pierre Lauzon, president of CUPE 301.
The union is currently embroiled in a dispute with the City, which is not abiding by the minimum staffing requirements.
“The City can’t disregard the collective agreement and act this way. Are we now seeing the effect of Luc Rabouin’s recent appointment to head up Projet Montréal? Is that what he means by the “nouveau regard sur Montréal” (Giving a new look to Montreal)?” questions Lauzon.
CUPE 301 is currently negotiating with the City of Montreal to renew the contract of its 6,500 members. The last contract expired on December 31, 2024.
