CUPE 5545, representing over 40 workers at Phoenix Residential Society in Regina, signed their first collective agreement this week.
Phoenix Residential Society staff provide psychosocial rehabilitation services to persons in Regina who have psychiatric disorders, acquired brain injuries, ABI, and other cognitive disabilities, are chronically homeless, or are struggling with substance abuse. The staff of the Phoenix HOMES program provide immediate access to housing for individuals who are in need followed up with intensive support services once in housing.
“Our members deserve fair compensation and strong workplace protections, and we are pleased to have negotiated a first collective agreement that will help us achieve that,” said Hannah Kanak, president of CUPE 5545. “We are proud of the care we provide for our clients and now can continue our work with more confidence.”
“Congratulations to the members of this new local on signing their first collective agreement. Their work providing care and support is nothing short of vital,” said Kent Peterson, president of CUPE Saskatchewan. “This first contract is not just a milestone for these members, but a step forward in recognizing the value and dignity of the essential care they provide every day.”
