The approximately 450 inside workers at the city of Lévis, outside of Quebec City, have a new collective agreement, officially ratified by the city council on April 28. The five-year agreement covers the period from January 2024 to December 2028.

The nearly 16 months of bargaining focused on many different articles in the collective agreement. The negotiated salary increases total 18% over five years. Improvements were also made to vacation time, statutory holidays, scheduling and various bonuses for workers in different sectors.

CUPE 2927 members voted on the agreement on April 14 at a general membership meeting. While turn-out was high, with over 260 union members in attendance, the tentative agreement passed with only a slim majority.

“Many members were unhappy to see no improvement in work-from-home arrangements and pension plans,” stated CUPE representative Mario Jean. “These issues will be addressed in labour relations and then in the next round of bargaining if necessary.”
