Negotiations for a first collective agreement between CUPE Local 440 and the Kimberley Public Library in southeast BC began today, after library workers voted to join CUPE last June.
“Our members are deeply committed to the important community services they provide. They decided to join CUPE to ensure fairness in their workplace and put a formal process in place to address important workplace issues,” says CUPE National Representative Keith Nielson.
“We look forward to a collaborative round of negotiations, where a fair collective agreement is reached that both improves working conditions and supports improved library services.”
CUPE represents more than 4,500 members who work in academic, public and school libraries throughout BC and provide vital services in our schools and communities and at college and university campuses.
CUPE Local 440 represents five members who work as library assistants, children programmers, circulation clerks, administrative support workers and pages at the Kimberley Public Library as well as 220 employees of School District #6 who provide community services for Kimberley, Invermere and Golden.
