Following the sending of a strike notice calling for a two-day strike on February 4 and 5, 2025, discussions have taken place with the employer’s representatives, and although a tentative agreement has not yet been reached, union members are moving toward a settlement. As a result, the strike slated for February will not take place.
“Negotiations with the City of Laval, which began in the spring of 2023, were moving too slowly. At this point, we want to put forth every effort at the bargaining table. Meetings have already been planned,” said CUPE representative Alexandre Prégent.
Moreover, the union will continue pressuring the employer to force them to improve their mandates to reach a collective agreement to the satisfaction of both parties.
Depending on the progress of negotiations, other action could be taken in the coming days.
“Remaining united is the only way we can meet our objectives,” said Prégent.
