This year’s “Include Me!” to mark international anti-racism day

RICHMOND—CUPE BC’s Committee Against Racism and Discrimination is pleased to announce that this year’s version of the union’s popular diversity celebration, “Include Me!”, will be held in Richmond on Saturday (March 28), one week after the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racism and Discrimination.

Like previous events held in Surrey, Prince George, Coquitlam and Victoria, this year’s version of Include Me! will put a spotlight on the rich cultural diversity of the host community.

“It’s always a very powerful event, and a lot of fun, and this year will be no exception,” says event organizer and CUPE BC alternate diversity vice-president (workers of colour) Shehnaz Motani.

“The message of tolerance, understanding and sharing between cultures is more important than ever, and these events are a very positive and affirming way to reinforce that message.”

The event will feature multicultural dancing and music, and speeches by community leaders that will focus on how to fight racism, foster equality, and build solidarity.

“Include Me!” runs from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday at J.N. Burnett Secondary School (5011 Granville Avenue) in Richmond.

Free refreshments will be served.
