CUPE proud to support We are Wisconsin Film tour

CUPE is proud to partner with Quality Public Services [Action Now] campaign's Canadian tour of the award-winning documentary, We Are Wisconsin.

We Are Wisconsinis a riveting documentary that follows the unprecedented wave of public outrage that rose against Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker’s controversial ‘budget repair’ bill. The film highlights the human stories behind the popular uprising that was forged inside the Madison Capitol building in 2011. The film’s premiere at the recent Hot Docs film festival in Toronto garnered standing ovations.

"CUPE stood with our brothers and sisters in Wisconsin when the state dramatically cut spending on public services and took away collective bargaining rights from public sector workers,| says CUPE President Paul Moist. "Now Wisconsin style attacks on the public service have come to Canada. It is more important than ever to stand up for public service here in Canada, and to continue to work with our brothers and sisters from Wisconsin and around the world.”

The film is being shown to audiences across Canada to encourage discussion of how Canadians can take action to resist the massive public service cuts being imposed by all levels of government. The tour gets under way October 11, 2012 in Toronto with screenings across Ontario.
