WinnipegCUPE X-Ray Technologists at the Health Sciences Centre today voted to accept a new deal after more than 15 months of negotiations.

“Our members feel this is a fair and reasonable contract,” said Maureen Morrison, CUPEs Acting Regional Director. “It doesnt include everything we were trying to achieve but we think its a good deal.”

The agreement gives the 65 X-Ray Technologists, members of CUPE Local 1550, wage increases of 9% over a four-year contract. It includes provisions to standardize the wage grid as well as recruitment and retention adjustments to address the problem of staffing shortages.

Health Sciences Centre Radiology is the largest, most specialized and busiest in Winnipeg. It is the trauma centre for the province and receives patients from all over Manitoba and Northwest Ontario.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees is Canadas largest union representing 485,000 women and men. In Manitoba, CUPE has 23,000 members who work in health care, emergency services, education, municipalities, social services, libraries and utilities.
