What: Vancouver library workers, represented by CUPE Local 391, will make a formal presentation to the library board tomorrow, November 27, urging the board not to support a reorganization plan for the library. The library board meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the central library location.

The reorganization plan became a municipal election issue last month, when COPE candidates criticized the proposal to spend more than $200,000 on creating a new layer of managers instead of improving library services.

Why: The library workers have many concerns with the reorganization plan. The union local can’t understand the rationale for either the proposed changes or the board’s haste. They say a new library director should be hired before any changes are contemplated.

Who: Peter Degroot, acting president of CUPE Local 391, will make the presentation to the board. The CUPE executive and many library workers will be in attendance to demonstrate their concern with the reorganization plan.

Where: The Vancouver Library Board meeting will take place in the Central library.

When: The board meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 27, at 5:30 p.m.
