TORONTO On Monday, City of Toronto workers will demonstrate against a Toronto Community Housing Corporation proposal that the workers say will lead to the loss of over 30 jobs and erode social housing in the city.

The workers, members of the Toronto Civic Employees Union, Local 416 CUPE, will attend a demonstration outside the building where the Toronto Community Housing Corporation board of directors will be meeting:

  • When?
    8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4

  • Where?
In front of 931 Yonge St. (corner of Yonge and Rosedale Valley Rd.)

Proper public social housing has helped to make Toronto the vital, equitable, and safe city we have today, says Brian Cochrane, the president of the Toronto Civic Employees Union, Local 416 CUPE, which represents the workers. We are now seeing a big swing in the philosophy governing this important service to our communities and it is a definite swing to the right. We have more homeless and downtrodden people in this city than ever before. The best way to help them is to invest in social housing, not erode it.
