Three CUPE locals have ratified new contracts with the city of Burlington, Ontario giving the workers their frist pay increase since 1992. Wage will rise two per cent in each year of a three-year contract.

Local 44 includes 95 winter control, parks, arenas and outdoor maintenance workers. Labourer earning $14.37 an hour before the new deal will see their earnings climb to $14.66 in July and $15.25 an hour by the time the contract expires in June, 2001.

Local 2723 represents about 58 full-time and 20 casual transit drivers and mechanics. The hourly base wage for drivers will go from $16.29 to $17.29 over the life of the contract.

The engineering department, traffic signal controllers, development staff and construction inspectors are among the 51 workers who are members of Local 1540.
