In Working for tomorrow, a video produced by CUPE in 1987, former CUPE National President Jeff Rose and others discuss contracting-out and privatization.

We can hear directly from members, coming from a diversity of sectors like municipalities, broadcasting, libraries, schools, airlines, and energy. There are interviews in both languages.

Contracting-out and privatization means lay-offs, worse working conditions, and lower quality of services. The video also addresses other issues such as the impact of technology and precarious work.

This video is 35 years old, which just goes to show that these fights are never-ending. Governments and employers are constantly tempted to go down the route of privatizing our cherished public services. CUPE has fought for these issues in the past, as it will diligently continue to do so in the future. We know that public works best.
