Pickets went up at the entrances to the University of Victoria in BC on November 24, as members of CUPE 917 and 951 protested the lack of progress in negotiations. The 1,000 members disrupted access to campus for several hours in what was the fifth day of action by university support staff since September 007400680065 first strike in the history of CUPE at UVic. Members were joined by representatives from the three other BC university campusesU00420043002c Simon Fraser and the University of Northern British Columbia. P>Negotiations have been complicated because agreement must be reached by the government and the employers association on key issues like pay equity, benefits and pensions that will add value to local settlements in the university sector.
