We are on the brink of getting the first national program in decades. In the coming days and weeks, federal and provincial leaders will be developing a plan for a national child care program. This could be a major breakthrough for working women – if the government lays the right foundation.

Canadians are demanding nothing less than a universal, not-for-profit program that’s publicly funded with principles that can be enforced. This will only happen with major pressure.

Federal social development minister Ken Dryden is on record as saying that the time for action on child care is now. We couldn’t agree more.
