At a special general meeting held, 93% of the attending members of the Syndicat des employées et employés de soutien de l’Université de Sherbrooke (SEESUS) adopted an extension of the collective agreement between their union and the university. Expired on March 31, 2025, the agreement is renewed until March 31, 2027.
“The extension includes a 4.93% increase in wage scales and bonuses, retroactive to April 1, 2025, and an additional increase of 2.5% as of April 1, 2026,” explained president Annie Trottier. “With this extension, the parties aim to ensure internal equity and recognize support employees’ essential contribution to the university’s mission. These adjustments are intended as a way to catch up to other groups at the university.”
Extending the collective agreement brings labour peace, which will help in ongoing discussions to resolve labour relations issues. The last agreement had been renewed for two years in September 2023, and therefore was valid until March 31, 2025.
“During the last round of negotiations,” Trottier added, “we chose to sign a short-term collective agreement in the hopes of obtaining more in the next round of bargaining. This strategy paid off.”
