The union representing over 800 Educational Support Staff at the Halifax Regional School Board (HRSB) will hold votes this Thursday, March 21 on a ‘final offer’ from their employer.

CUPE National Representative Marianne Welsh says the union would have preferred to negotiate an agreement during conciliation talks in February and March; however, the union anticipated that HRSB would use the ‘final offer’ tactic.

Local 5047 represents HRSB employees who work as Community Outreach Workers, Early Childhood Educators (Lead and Support), Educational Program Assistants, Library Support Specialists, and Student Support Workers. These employees are usually school based, and support students in over 140 sites across HRM - from Sheet Harbour to Hubbards.

The HRSB employees have already held a strike vote and given their Bargaining Committee a strong strike mandate.
