The union representing over 800 Educational Support Staff at the Halifax Regional School Board (HRSB) has ratified a new, three-year contract with their employer.

CUPE National Representative Marianne Welsh says, “The vote was held yesterday and the tentative agreement was ratified by a margin of 92 per cent. The bargaining committee and I want to thank the members of Local 5047 for their strong endorsement of this settlement.”

The new contract runs from August 01, 2011 to July 31, 2014 and contains wage increases of 2 , 2.5% and 3%, plus other improvements.

CUPE Local 5047 represents 830 HRSB employees who work as community outreach workers, early childhood educators (lead and support), educational program assistants, library support specialists, and student support workers. These employees are usually school based and support students in over 140 sites across HRM - from Sheet Harbour to Hubbards.
