CUPE Local 5167 President Gus Oliveira, whose union represents some 2,600 municipal workers throughout the new city says, The candidates on this list have made a commitment to protect public services and strengthen our community. These are also the people who werent afraid to say its okay to fight for decent paying jobs for the people of Hamilton.
CUPE has endorsed the following candidates:

- Ward 3 Bernie Moreli
- Ward 5 Chad Collins
- Ward 6 Tom Jackson
- Ward 7 Chris Charlton
- Ward 8 Mike Oddi
- Ward 12 Bryan Kerman
- Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board
Ward 5 Wayne Marston
CUPEs selections were based on questionnaires with 21 questions dealing with the issues of privatization of public services, Transition Board powers, the role of unions in the new city and what the politicians see as their role in maintaining healthy labour relations with their employees.
In wards where no candidate has been endorsed, no candidates met CUPEs criteria.
Oliveira is urging people to excercise their democratic rights and get out to vote on November 13. He says people need to take a stand to protect public services and make the new city a vibrant and healthy place for working families.
