Members of CUPE Local 3261, shippers and receivers at the University of Toronto Press, have ratified a two-year agreement. A settlement was reached after the employer withdrew all conces-sion demands and agreed to modest increases in wages and benefits.

Pledges of strong support from allies in the labour and university communities played a key role in pressuring the employer to settle.

Wages will increase four per cent over two years and members will receive lump sum payments of about two per cent. Importantly, the contract protects and strengthens members right to serve as union officials. As well, theres now a provision for early retirement and an agreement to reopen the contract to negotiate pension improve-ments if they are achieved by the CUPE Local 3261 bargaining unit at U of T.
