Ajax, Ont. Municipal workers with the Town of Ajax reached a tentative agreement on Monday, November 15th. Details of the agreement will not be available until after ratification by the union and the employer. The union will hold ratification votes on Friday, November 19th. If the deal is ratified it will avoid a potential strike.

We are pleased we were able to reach an agreement before the strike deadline, said Steve Peters, president of CUPE Local 54. Our negotiating committee will be recommending this deal to the membership.

The Towns 92 full-time municipal workers, including by-law officers, building inspectors, road maintenance crews, parks and recreation staff and administration staff, are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

Our members deserve fair wages and respect from the employer and this deal is a step in the right direction, said Peters.
