A tentative settlement was reached at noon today between CUPE Local 374 and

the Greater Victoria Labour Relations Association on behalf of the District of Oak

Bay, Town of Sidney, District of North Saanich and the City of Colwood.

The agreement which is subject to ratification is for a four year term, beginning retroactively from January 1, 2001.

Wage increases which total 8.5% over the term of the contract, plus various benefit improvements, are in line with the agreement recently reached with City of Victoria CUPE workers.

CUPE Local 374 President Justin Schmid said, “Our union held off strike action yesterday in Oak Bay and Colwood to allow the parties some extra time to sit down and discuss the issues that were holding up a settlement. We are pleased to report that these talks resulted in a memorandum of settlement that the union bargaining committee can recommend to the CUPE members.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees represents 470 members, including clerks and recreation services workers, in the four greater Victoria area municipalities.
