Winnipeg CUPE X-Ray Technologists at the Health Sciences Centre have voted overwhelmingly to reject their employers contract offer and are prepared to strike unless they get a better deal.

Its a matter of fairness. Our members are expected to deliver first-class service and yet we get second-class treatment”, says X-Ray Technologist Al Saydak of CUPE Local 1550. Unless the Health Sciences Centre changes its position and offers equity for Technologists on call, our members are prepared to withdraw their services.

The Health Sciences Centres offer fell short of offering equal treatment with St. Boniface and Grace Hospitals where X-Ray Technologists have better standby pay.

HSC Radiology Department is the largest, most specialized and busiest with the most difficult multiple injury cases in the city. Its the trauma centre for the province receiving patients from all over Manitoba and even Northwest Ontario, Saydak says. Our employer relies heavily on having our members on standby. Its work. Our members deserve to be treated the same as Technologists at the other hospitals.

The 65 X-Ray Technologists voted 98% in favour of a strike on June 29th.
