After seven weeks on the picket line, striking home care workers from Queens County came to the CUPE Nova Scotia convention today looking for a shot in the arm and did they get one.

The workers, members of Local 3885, received financial support for their strike from their sister locals to the tune of $23,623.

Convention delegates and their locals pledged some $5,906 dollars from the convention floor, which was matched by CUPE Nova Scotia. That amount was then matched by CUPE National to arrive at the more than $23,600 in strike support.

The workers, all of them women, have been on strike since April 20. They are seeking wage parity with other home care workers across the province.

Their employer is refusing to even return to the bargaining table. The home care workers make just $7.14 an hour.
