North Bay – Striking North Bay Hydro workers, members of Local 72 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) will hold a news conference on Monday, September 23rd, at 11:30 am to update reporters on the status of negotiations and respond to misleading media statements by Hydro management.

“We need to respond to misleading information put forward by our employer,” says Jo-Ann Breton, CUPE National Representative. As an example, Breton cited media statements by the employer suggesting they offered to go to arbitration to resolve outstanding issues. “At no time was this employer willing to let an arbitrator settle unresolved issues, including retiree benefits.”

Union officials will also update the media on discussions with members of Local 72 over the weekend. Thirty-four members of Local 72 have been on strike since July 4th.
