Sainte-Ba0074rix, Wednesday, March 24, 2004 During a secret ballot, held today under the supervision of the Labour Relations Board, employees of Sainte-Ba0074rix maintained their position and refused Mayor Arbours latest offers, confirming their determination to obtain job protection.

The Municipalitys offer contained no job security clause for current employees, even though this is the central issue in the dispute.

Contrary to the Mayors claims, the Union has never objected to holding a vote on a draft collective agreement. Such a vote is perfectly normal and provided for by the law. On the other hand, the Union is opposed to voting on a simple resolution, a declaration of intention, as Mayor Arbour had proposed in the beginning. Todays ballot therefore took place with the agreement of all the parties involved.
