Earlier this week, 15 people were picketing in front of Pascan Aviation’s head office in Saint-Hubert when a member of management drove toward them with his vehicle. CUPE 5490, the union representing the company’s flight attendants, filed a complaint with the Longueuil police department.
“The striking members were exercising their right to picket peacefully when the car arrived at full speed, barreling toward the parking lot,” said Patrick Gloutney, president of CUPE Quebec. “Fortunately, one of the picketers acted fast and was able to pull a colleague away before he was struck. It was a very close call! We strongly condemn such dangerous behaviour, which occurred before several witnesses.”
Pascan employees have been on strike since October 28. The main issues are wages, off-base residency, assignments and crew planning. The previous collective agreement expired on July 18, 2025.
“Labour disputes aren’t easy for anyone,” said Gloutney. “But there is no excuse for endangering someone’s life or health. I hope that senior management also cracks down on this individual for his reprehensible act.”
