Motorists driving into the southwestern Ontario city of Stratford last week were greeted by a sign that read “City of Stratford - CLOSED”.

The 115 inside and outside municipal workers continue their strike, which began March 19. The members of CUPE 197 and 1385 are fighting for a decent wage increase on the heels of hefty pay increases received by city councillors, the mayor and senior managers - up to 23% in the case of the mayor!

The locals have been running print ads in the Stratford paper featuring cartoon character pigs clutching wads of cash, with the headline “Why are these little piggies so happy?”
