BRANTFORD – Members of CUPE Local 181, workers at the Brantford Public Library, have given their negotiating committee a renewed mandate to pursue the issues that took them out on the picket line five weeks ago.

“We got clear directions from the membership meeting last night not to back down,” said CUPE National Representative Matt Graves. Negotiations with the library board are scheduled to resume at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

The main issues for the 48 workers have been regular schedules for part-timers and assurances that their work will not be contracted out.

The Canadian Union of Public Employees represents 180,000 workers in Ontario, most of whom work for municipalities, hospitals, school boards, universities and social service agencies.
