Following layoffs for school library workers across New Brunswick, CUPE 2745 has been fighting tooth and nail to urge the government to restore the crucial positions. CUPE 2745 President Theresa McAllister and the union’s inner executive issued a statement in response to the finance minister’s most recent remarks.
“We agree that more resources are required for direct support to students, but we disagree that school library work is not a direct support to students,” said McAllister. “All work of our union provides direct services to students, regardless of Minister Legacy’s statement.”
CUPE 2745 members want to provide the highest quality education to students in their communities. That can only be done with a government that’s willing to provide more support, not hand out more layoff notices. “We will continue to fight this battle as required in the court or the boardroom and are hopeful for a positive outcome that benefits students and our membership.”
