OTTAWA, Ont. – Teaching assistants (TAs) and contract lecturers at Carleton University, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), will be joined by the faculty and academic staff union (CUASA), as well as student and labour supporters, for a solidarity rally on Thursday, October 19th, at 12:00 noon, in the foyer of the Tory building on campus.

The rally is a joint event between CUPE Local 4600 and CUASA, as both unions try to negotiate collective agreements with the university administration. CUPE’s last contract with the university expired on August 31, 2006, and so far, contract talks have failed to reach a settlement.

Guest speakers include Janice Folk-Dawson, chair of CUPE’s University Workers Coordinating Committee, and Michael Hurley, president of the Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU/CUPE)
