CUPE is pledging its support to brothers and sisters in the federal public service. This week, the National Executive Board passed a resolution to fight against austerity measures that cut services and reduces spending in the federal public sector.

The resolution commits CUPE to work with the Canadian labour movement and the official opposition NDP to oppose cuts and advocate for increased investments in federal public services.

The NEB is encouraging all CUPE members to show their support by signing a Public Service Alliance of Canada online petition. It calls on Tony Clement, president of the Treasury Board and the Harper Conservative government to reverse its planned cuts to jobs and public services, and to maintain and improve federal public services for all Canadians. The petition also calls for the reversal of corporate tax cuts as a cost effective way to reduce the federal deficit.
