Outside workers for the city of Sherbrooke, Qu.002c were off the job for three hours this week to protest the glacial pace of contract negotiations.

Between 250 and 300 CUPE members marched through the city before assembling in front of city hall. The legal strike began at 11 a.m. Workers were back on the job by 2 p.m.

CUPE Local 2729 president Laurent Clouston called the action a warning sign for management.

We hope to be able to reach an agreement amicably and without having to engage in a longer work stoppage, he said. But after two years without a contract, our members have reached the limit of their patience.
