EDMONTON – One month before Christmas 2012, residents of Edmonton General Hospital were discouraged to learn their new karaoke equipment had been stolen. As the equipment had been paid for through fundraising, there were no plans to replace it.

Staff at the facility, through their union (Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 41) decided to contribute new equipment for the residents.

We could not believe anyone would steal a karaoke machine from a seniors` home,” said CUPE 41 President Lola Barrett. “We were sick about it, and decided we needed to step up for our seniors.”

The new equipment will be presented to the hospital this Monday and media are welcome to attend.

Date: Monday, April 29
