SYDNEY – Employees at Seaview Manor nursing home in Glace Bay have ratified a new contract.

CUPE National Representative Kathy MacLeod says, “The members of Local 2094 were very pleased that they were able to negotiate a first paid sick day. They also received all the provincial benefits that were negotiated in the CUPE provincial nursing home settlement.”

That settlement was reached in mid-march and resulted in a 53-month agreement between the parties concluding on March 31st, 2009. That deal affects some 37 facilities across the province. It is still going through a ratification process.

MacLeod says Local 2094 represents about 120 employees, including Personal Care Workers (PCW’s), laundry, housekeeping and maintenance workers.
