Our National Executive Board met virtually June 21-23, 2021. These are the highlights of their deliberations and decisions.

This spring has been a difficult one for CUPE members across the country. COVID-19 has continued to wreak havoc on our communities, with a third wave of the pandemic taking hold in most provinces before vaccination campaigns could begin in earnest.

We are now in the second year of the pandemic and I continue to be inspired by the never-ending commitment shown by CUPE members and staff across the country. CUPE’s dedication to deliver first rate public services and other supports to our communities, reflects the critical importance of our work.

Our power as a union depends on the active participation of our members. That’s why it’s so important that we ensure meetings are accessible to everyone, including persons with disabilities. Accessibility isn’t something that can be tacked on to a meeting at the last minute. It needs to be a central part of the planning process.

It has been just over a year since the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a global pandemic, and everything changed. Looking back on the last 12 months, knowing the challenges we all faced, I cannot help but be proud of our union and how we responded in the face of this crisis.

As the pandemic persists and we pass the one-year mark, all levels of CUPE continue to adapt and respond to emerging needs. I am very proud of the wide range of ways CUPE continues to face the challenges with unprecedented determination and resilience.
