Park West School Division - Support workers in the Park West School Division voted yesterday to have the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) represent them.

I think everyone looked at the options and decided to go for the union that had the broadest experience and could give members the best support, said Bonnie Butterfield, President of CUPE Local 3037.

Now we need to get to work and welcome the new members. One of the first things we have to do is merge our two collective agreements so that all members get the benefits they deserve, she said yesterday.

Park West School Division was formed last year by the amalgamation of Birdtail and Pelly Trail School Divisions in West Central Manitoba. CUPE represented about 100 support workers in the Birdtail School Division. The Manitoba Government Employees Union (MGEU) represented about 40 workers in the Pelly Trail School Division.

The Manitoba Labour Board ordered a representation vote to take place in various locations from November 3rd to 5th, to determine which union would represent the workers.
