New Glasgow - The union representing employees at Valley View Villa will be holding a public information meeting tonight (Monday, March 5) at 7:00 pm to discuss a possible plan to hand over some management of the facility to Sodexho Inc., a multinational corporation that is headquartered in France.

Valley View Villa is considering a bid from Sodexho to take over management of the nursing home’s ‘Ancillary Services’, which could have a serious impact on the quality of care being provided to these residents as well as the number of jobs at the nursing home.

Invited speakers include:

  • Danny Cavanagh, President CUPE Nova Scotia
  • Rick Clarke, President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labour
  • Janet Hazelton, President of the Nova Scotia Nurses Union

Local MLA’s Charlie Parker, Pictou West; Clarrie MacKinnon, Pictou East; and Pat Dunn, Pictou Center have also been invited.

Family members of residents at the facility and members of the broader public are being invited to find out more about what handing over our province’s health care services to foreign-owned companies could mean for Pictou County.

(ATTENTION ASSIGNMENT EDITORS: The meeting is at the Heather Hotel, McBean Room at 7:00 pm Monday, March 5.)
