The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU), a CUPE global justice partner, plans to call a nationwide strike in May to support their Johannesburg local’s demands. The union wants the city to intervene in a dispute over municipal restructuring between striking Eastern Cape workers and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole. Workers there have been on strike for several weeks.
