In their ongoing campaign to win a fair contract CUPE workers employed by the city of Delta, B.C. held a one-day work stoppage, Thursday, June 18.

The 640 workers are members of CUPE Local 454. This was the second time they walked out in their campaign of rotating work stoppages.

The last collective agreement expired in December 1996. One of the major issues in the dispute is an attempt by management to alter a nine day fortnight by which members get a three-day weekend every other week in exchange for working longer shifts. Other issues include exemptions from union membership and improvements to working conditions.

The president of Local 454 is Joe Badali. The National Representatives working with the local are Anne Coupland and Connie Credico
