With her trademark fire and wit, Sister Geraldine McGuire took a swipe at “the cheap, sleazy public sector bashing that passes for politics in so many regions of this country.”

In a moving speech that evoked the memory of CUPE’s founding members, she pledged that members would keep up the fight to defend the values that have brought us together.

“We believe that all working families deserve decent, quality services because without them… only the rich would enjoy any measure of security and stability,” McGuire said. “And as unionists we believe that women and men who provide those services deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and fairness.”
