CUPE 1445 members at Red Deer College have negotiated a groundbreaking new contract clause for a day off with pay for members to support the parents of their new grandchild.

As well, the agreement provides a 7 per cent wage increase over two years plus a cost of living increase if inflation exceeds 4 per cent in 2001 and 3 per cent in 2002.

Our success in negotiating a grandparent clause simply recognizes the changing demographics in our workplace, said local president Clark Daniels.

CUPE 1445 represents over 100 clerical employees at the college.
