Citizens against the merger of Huronia District Hospital with Penetanguishene General Hospital will stage a rally tomorrow to show their opposition to the potential loss of health services in their community.

WHAT:     Rally against Huronia-Penetanguishene hospital merger

WHEN:     Friday, July 27, 11:30 AM

WHERE:   Behind Mountainview Mall on Highway 93 (March to Huronia District Hospital for 12 Noon, 1112 St. Andrew’s Drive, Midland)

The proposed merger of the Huronia District Hospital (HDH) with the Penetanguishene General Hospital (PGH) under the sponsorship of the Catholic Health Corporation of Ontario has taken everybody by surprise.

There was no public discussion or debate about the merger until some HDH board members resigned in protest.  This is not acceptable.  Our hospital should remain secular and accountable to the whole community, with no loss of reproductive or other health services.

The rally is sponsored by the Midland Health Coalition & the Ontario Health Coalition (OHC). The OHC is the broadest public interest group on health care in Ontario.  Its network is strengthened by over 400 grassroots community organizations, including over 50 local health coalitions in communities across the province.
